We Fight For Your Right To A Healthy Environment

Beyond Toxics challenges environmental pollution by taking on its root causes – environmental racism and injustice – and activating and organizing the people who are most affected by pollution and harm.

How We Do Our Work

Beyond Toxics works to advance the power of Oregon’s most vulnerable and marginalized groups who are exposed to a disproportionate share of environmental health burdens. Our organization was founded in 2000 as a diverse coalition of working class, rural and industrialized communities seeking to end a pattern of exposure to pollution.

We do this work side-by-side with the frontline communities that suffer the brunt of environmental harm. We change policy by demanding that their experiences and knowledge play a central role in environmental policy decisions.

What Is Environmental Justice?

Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of people of color and vulnerable communities who experience disproportionate levels of toxicity in their communities. Environmental justice requires self-determination for economic, social, and political capital to create communities that thrive.
